Network Connectivity

Modular Input / Output slot for network connectivity.

The MIO port & high speed bi-directional parallel interface, used for high speed data transmission and remote bi-directional communications with the host computer, allows for fast networking. Auto interface switching, save settings and network mode setting (Lock Panel for panel setting protection, Auto FF and FF Suppress), all save valuable network time and improve the overall efficiency of the network or workgroup.

Optional Brother Network Interface (NC-2010h)

The NC-2010h network interface card allows multiple host computers to share the Brother printer on a 10Mbit Ethernet network. Any user can print their their job as if the printer was directly connected to their computer. No special software is required on the host computers and application programs run without any modification. Because the NC-2010h provides multi-protocol capabilities, users on DEC, UNIX, NovellNetware, AppleTalk, LAN Server, WindowsNT, Windows95, LAN Manager, and Banyan VINES computers, can simultaneously access the same printer.

1200 dpi class printing combined with microfine toner produces exceptional quality print output. Also, 1200 dpi quality printing can be achieved using Brother's own High Resolution Control (HRC) and Advanced Photoscale Technology (APT). The 87 total fonts enable an even wider range of quality output.

Faster Printing Solutions

With the use of a RISC-based high speed controller (100 MHz) and parallel page processing, the HL-1660e outputs your documents fast. High speed Windows printing is now a reality, as a result of the advanced Windows driver (with superfast data transfer) in combination with the built in scalable fonts and True Type(TM) font rasterizer.

Enhanced Memory Management

With 8Mb of on board RAM (standard memory) expandable to 72Mb via Industry Standard SIMM, the HL-1660e is powerful enough to handle almost any print job sent to it. For exceptional memory management, there is Brother's own data compression and both a variable input buffer and intelligent auto page protection, which minimizes RAM consumption. Further, the optional flash memory and HDD cards may be used to save macros, fonts and print data. - All of these features save time and money and increase flexibility and productivity.

Excellent Paper Handling

The high capacity paper cassette (A6 to Legal sizes) which holds 500 sheets, and the 150 sheet multi-purpose tray (for a second paper type or manual feeding) provide excellent handling. The media setting control allows you to obtain the optimum print quality on differing paper types and transparencies, every time. The optional 500 sheet paper tray (LT-1600), which brings the total paper capacity to 1,150 sheets, and the duplex printing unit (DX-1600) save both time and money, as well as benefiting the environment.

Industry Standard Supplies / Accessories

The HL-1660e uses the industry standard TN-9000 (EP-ED) microfine toner cartridge for exceptional quality output. Memory upgrades are accomplished with the use of low cost and easy to install standard SIMM chips.

Multiple Printer Languages

Almost every application is automatically handled by the printer, not only with the two most widely used emulations - PCL(R) 6 and BR-Script level 2 (Postscript(R) level 2 language emulation), but also with IBM(R) and Epson(R) emulations and with HP-GL(TM) emulation for CAD applications. Even bar codes can be printed. Auto emulation mode enables the printer to automatically switch emulations depending on the data type it receives. When you decide to Keep PCL as your default emulation, the printer saves your PCL settings, allowing you to use other emulations and still be able to return to the saved settings.

Economy mode cuts toner consumption by up to 50% and sleep mode cuts power consumption to less than 16 watts. The optional duplex printing (DX-1600) and FF Suppression (not print partition blank pages) in a network environment saves paper, while quick reprint (by FF switch) eliminates wasteful incorrect copies. Furthermore, the toner cartridge is ozone free and the "2 in 1" & "4 in 1" Windows(R) printing modes cut paper consumption even further.
