Additional information:
According to Harold Broughton's book, The Tysors of Old Chatham Broughton, Harold; The Tysors of Old Chatham, © 1972, Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 72-85356, Evander James McIver's home was one mile from Bear Creek, on Pittsboro Rd. He was a farmer, but in early manhood was injured by being dragged by a horse. He had to give up heavy work, so he became an agent for Singer Sewing Machines, traveling over several counties in his buggy, selling and servicing the machines.

His wife was the daughter of Col. James Franklin Rives and Elizabeth Ann Marsh
